How do Commissions typically work. Commissions are typically paid by the seller to the listing brokerage who then agrees to pay a portion (often 50%) to a cooperating broker whose agent may be acting as either a Buyers Agent, Facilitator, or in rare cases as a sub-agent to the listing agent. Most agents work on commission splits with their broker which can range from 50/50 to 70/30. The listing agreement spells out the terms of just when a commission is earned. For the most part the commission is not paid until the sale closes and the seller gets their proceeds money.
